What is E-Rate?

E-Rate is a federal funding program awarding over $2 billion nationally in reimbursement to schools, libraries and consortia for specific telecommunications service and products.  This funding is available to all eligible entities applying, and complying, with E-Rate program rules and regulations.

The FCC established this program so schools and libraries have affordable access to telecommunications and internet services.  E-Rate reimburses 20% to 90% of the billed eligible services.   This reimbursement percentage is determined by the ratio of students eligible for the National School Lunch Program and total enrollment.  For example, if a school has a 70% discount, the E-Rate program pays 70% of the billed cost of equipment or service and the district pays the remaining 30%.
